The Peterborough Musicfest will host Warkworth-born Canadian country music star Sacha on Saturday.
Saturday will be the singer-songwriter’s “hometown” first show since its rise to stardom in 2020.
“Growing up, I remember school trips to the elevator lock,” Sacha said. “Peterborough would be one of the closest ‘big cities’ to me growing up.”
Sacha released his EP The Best Thing and the single Standards, which to date has been streamed 10 million times and still counting, in July 2020.
“I’ve been in the music business for a long time but 2020 for some reason has given me an opportunity to be seen and heard. I guess shutting down the world has given people an opportunity to look around of them.
Following the success of his EP, his collaboration with The Reklaws on their smash What The Truck gave Sacha his first gold-certified hit.
Nominated for the Country Music Association of Ontario’s Rising Star in 2021, Sacha was named iHeartRadio’s Future Star, and three of his videos – for the songs Cheers, Standards and What The Truck – have been shown regularly on CMT.
She says growing up in Warkworth influenced the type of music she writes and performs.
“My parents were musicians,” she says. “I grew up in a small town, in the countryside. We grew our own vegetables, stuff like that. My mom played all kinds of music around the house. Music was an influence from day one.
She says viewers can expect songs they can sing along to, new songs, and songs that bring people back.
“I will share my story and hope people can come away inspired, knowing that everyone has a dream and all dreams can come true if you work hard and stay true to yourself.”
Following her show in Peterborough, Sacha will head to the Boots and Hearts music festival in August and tour with popular country duo Maddie & Tae in the fall.
This event is completely free, with first-come, first-served seating. It is suggested that spectators bring a lawn chair, chairs will be available for hire on site.
If a thunderstorm occurs during a concert, a cancellation announcement will be made from the stage. Peterborough Musicfest will not issue a cancellation call until 7:45 p.m. fifteen minutes before the scheduled 8 p.m. start. Postponement of canceled concerts is not guaranteed.
