The Omicron Covid strain is currently sweeping through New South Wales, with 22,577 new cases recorded on Saturday.

But that didn’t stop country crooner Troy Cassar-Daley from feasting Sydney locals on New Years Day, when he took the stage at the Elevate Sydney Festival.

The singer-songwriter, 52, wore blue jeans and a black shirt with rolled up sleeves as he performed on the Cahill Expressway.

Elevate is a six-day party that runs along the Cahill Expressway, with the stretch of road closed for entertainment and the cultural festival.

From January 1, headlining music shows, pop-up food stalls and bars will line up along the Strip, with three sessions held in the morning, afternoon and evening.

The Elevate Sydney paid event has a capacity of 2,500 people per session, with thousands remaining on a waiting list to reserve seats.

Mr Ayres said a “small number” of people had returned tickets in light of Omicron’s situation, but the week-long party is expected to remain fully allocated.

The news comes after authorities in NSW said on Sunday that it was inevitable that all residents would catch Covid as the latest strain sweeps through the community.

As cases rise, authorities are calling on people to refrain from taking PCR tests unless they are symptomatic, advised by NSW Health, or traveling interstate, to ease the strained healthcare system of the ‘State.

“At the end of the day, we’re all going to have Omicron,” Health Minister Brad Hazzard said during a press conference with Perrottet on Boxing Day.

“The challenge for us in the state is to make sure our health care system can cope with this coming virus.”

Mr Perrottet echoed the sentiment, also stating “we’re all going to have Omicron,” and asked residents for help in reducing the pressure on testing clinics.
