Dolly Parton has complicated feelings about modern music

For decades, Dolly Parton has been steadfast. The country music legend hasn’t radically changed his vocal style or stage presence in years. Her fans don’t even know what Parton looks like without makeup. Yet she remains popular despite all the changes going on in the music industry. The singer once explained how she keeps abreast of the latest trends in the industry.

Dolly Parton released her first album in 1967

Remarkably, Parton released his debut album, Hello, I am Dolly, in 1967. And its popularity has certainly increased over the years, reinforced by hits such as “Jolene”, “Coat of Many Colors” and “Here You Come Again”. Early in his career, Parton frequently collaborated with singer Porter Wagoner, a close friend who died in 2007, apparently with Parton on hand.

In the 1980s, Parton became even better known. His 1980 single “9 to 5” – from the film of the same name, which starred as Parton – became a number one hit. It also became a mainstream crossover hit on the pop charts, the first and only in Parton’s career. She continued to star in several other films over the years and never stopped recording albums either.

The singer explained how she confronts modern music

Of course, this kind of lasting success is not easy. While Parton has always been true to herself – even writing a 9/11 inspired song – she takes into account the current state of the music industry. As she said Today in 2014, she ensures that her music remains relevant and acceptable to what is currently happening in the company.

“Everything is high-tech and I’ve just been dragged screaming and kicking into the 21st century. But I try to surround myself with people who follow. It’s completely different now, but it’s wonderful that I’m still here. I say I’m as old as yesterday, but I hope as new as tomorrow.

Parton’s positive and warm attitude remains universal. No matter how many years – or decades – have passed, she has always remained real with her fans. And that is perhaps the main reason why she is still able to connect with listeners after all these years.

Dolly Parton continues to record new music even in the 2020s

In 2020, Parton even released their 47th studio album, a holiday release titled A Christmas Holly Dolly. This collection of tracks includes a collaboration with his goddaughter, Miley Cyrus. And that reflects Parton’s own appreciation for the season of giving, as she says Christmas is her favorite holiday.

With more than half a century in the business, Parton clearly has more to say. And his fans will more than likely be there to celebrate life through his music. As impressive as it may be for the singer to record again after all this time, it’s reassuring that, even as times change, Parton remains the same.
