Local music legends Cliona Hagan and Barry Kirwan brought a bit of country to the opening of Lidl’s new Northern Ireland store in James Street, Omagh on October 13.
e unveiling follows a seven-month construction project to modernize and significantly expand the store to more than double its original size.
Located at the bustling junction of Dromore Road and James Street in the heart of Omagh, the newly refurbished concept store offers shoppers an enhanced in-store experience, with a spacious retail space and expanded product range as well as a larger bakery and improved customer facilities.
Occupying an 8,029 square meter site, including 1,420 square meters of retail space, the expanded store has created an additional 15 new permanent retail positions, while supporting an additional 200 jobs during the construction and development phase.
Built with sustainability in mind, the high-tech store also includes energy-efficient lighting and two electric vehicle charging areas in its new 95-space landscaped car park, allowing customers to charge their electric vehicles while they shop. races.
“I am delighted to be here this morning to launch the brand new Lidl Northern Ireland store in my home county and chat with the long line of customers who turned up for the store opening,” said Hagan.
“No matter where in the world I perform, I always say that nothing matches the atmosphere when I perform in front of a local audience.
“It was great to have the chance to meet and greet local fans who have supported me throughout my music career while celebrating a very positive day for the city.

Barry Kirwan, Omagh country music legend and former Lidl Northern Ireland Omagh store employee, was also on hand to greet shoppers.
Kirwan said: “During the pandemic when music concerts were canceled like everyone else I still had bills to pay and a family to support so I got a job at my local Lidl in North Ireland.
“I really enjoyed my time there, and as I’m from Omagh myself, being part of the team at the James Street store has been great as I get to see faces I recognize every day.
“I’ve been busy working the new store in Omagh getting it ready for the grand opening, to see it all fall into place, be part of the launch celebrations and get a chance this morning to play for the lovely clients I have met working at Lidl in Northern Ireland has been a great privilege.
