So, in honor of Luke, who better to kick off the playlist? Many point to “The Bullfighter” or “Where Ya Been?” like his best songs, but “Sometimes” has always embodied the essence of Luke Bell the best. RIP Luke Bell.
Ward Davis – “Another Bad Apple” – Former Country Music Album of the Year winner, Ward Davis (2020s Black cats and crows) is back with a new song, and no, he’s not an introspective mourner. “Another Bad Apple” is a celebration of being bad, and if you like the melody, watch the video tooit’s a hoot.
Courtney Patton – “Victim” – Courtney Patton is releasing a new album on October 7 titled Electrostatic. And if you want a taste of the kind of fine songwriting she’s known for — and how to pull off an emotional crescendo in a song — “Casualty” is the perfect example.
Emily Nenni – “At the Ranch” – Here’s your opportunity to get on board with Emily Nenni, who will be releasing her new album At the ranch November 4. Having played a multitude of sets at Robert’s Western World in Nashville, his songs have that sound that only comes from being seasoned in authentic honky-tonks. You can hear it in its title track.
Memphis Kee – “Anabelle” – From Austin, TX, Memphis Kee is set to release a new album produced by sixth Mike and the Moonpies member Adam Odor. Recorded in Wimberley, Texas at Odor’s Yellow Dog Studios, lead single “Anabelle” reminds you of the exuberant days of Austin country rock, or as the band calls it, “shred dirt.”
Adam and Amy Pope – “Playing Patsy” – Traveling husband-and-wife duo Adam and Amy Pope spin in this stellar little classic country tune paying homage to Patsy and the timeless theme of heartbreak that’s only beckoning classic country fans.
Felicity Urquhart, Josh Cunningham – “Bog” – Who’s up for some Western Australian country music? It’s always fun to check out what Australians are up to, and Felicity Urquhart and Josh Cunningham are doing something really cool with this song inspired by their native landscape and ready to sing.
The beggars – “Where cotton is king” – No ladies and gentlemen, the Panhandlers weren’t just a lark. The Texans supergroup of Josh Abbott, William Clark Green, songwriter John Baumann and Flatland Cavalry’s Cleto Cordero are back in the studio, and it’s their first taste of new music since their much-loved debut album.
