Talented YOUNG singers will have the chance to shine at a brand new edition of the Tamworth Country Music Festival in 2022 – The Golden Gig. Sponsored by Macca’s, The Golden Gig is a quest for talent for young people 17 and under, giving them the chance to take center stage and launch their musical journey in Tamworth. Festival director Barry Harley said while Toyota Star Maker is for people over 18, the Golden Gig is for the next generation of Star Makers. “It’s purposely aimed at the under-17s, which is the opposite end of Star Maker, to provide just a little launching pad,” he said. “And then who knows, in a few years, they might appear in Toyota Star Maker.” There are phenomenal prizes to be won, with the winner of the 13-17 age group securing a seat at the Junior Academy of the Country Music Association of Australia valued at $ 3,000. The winners in each category will win their share of $ 10,000 worth of Yamaha instruments to help them further develop their musical skills. Choices include an electro-acoustic guitar, digital piano, interface, or electronic drum set.
