The Thirsty Ears Festival features classical music and craft beer in Ravenswood this weekend


RAVENSWOOD – The Thirsty Ears Festival will feature live classical music and craft beer from Empirical Brewing in Ravenswood this weekend.

The event will begin Saturday at 2 p.m. on Wilson Avenue, between Hermitage and Ravenswood avenues. Suggested donation of $ 10 benefits Access Contemporary Music’s Music school.

The annual street festival hosted by Access Contemporary Music is now in its 6th year and features baroque and contemporary pieces in a relaxed setting for people who may not be familiar with classical music.

“One of the new things that we will have this year is a band called The Growlers, which is a group of musicians from the Chicago Symphony who play bass, which will be really fun for people,” said Seth Boustead, director. Executive of Access. “No one has ever seen six double basses play together before, especially at this level. They are such great players.

Other highlights include the screening of ACM Sound of Silent Silent Film Festival, creations by five Chicago composers and a mix of music by Gustav Mahler and Antonio Vivaldi performed by an art-rock group Origin of the animal.

“It’s really new for us this year too because we used to stick strictly to the classic before,” said Boustead. “Having these jazz, big band / alternative rock remixes of classical music is going to be fun and sound really cool.”

In addition to beer from Imperial Brewing, the festival will also feature stalls from vendors from community and arts partners, food from Urban Tables, and kid-friendly activities and performances in Kidzone at the west end of the street. both days.
