community,

2MCE’s Saturday Night Jukebox celebrates 30 years of playing your favorite tunes. The program was started by the much-missed Bob Dengate in January 1992. In addition to Bob Dengate, original Jukebox presenters included Peter Lyon, Don Gordon and Terry Higgins. Together, they decided to launch a show that was driven by listener demands, with a particular focus on 1960s music. As Bob said, “In 1991, the 1960s were much newer.” The very first request was for Silver Threads And Golden Needles from The Springfields. Peter Lyon was presenting the show and as the disc was not at hand, he asked Bob to bring it to 2MCE. Bob walked up to the station, 33+1/3 vinyl in hand, thinking that might be the only request they could ever get. But 30 years later, thousands of requests have been received from the communities of Bathurst and Orange. In 2018, Jukebox received a record of over 3000 requests in one year. Requests are for songs from the 1960s to today. 2MCE’s Saturday Night Jukebox brought music to the community with outside broadcasts. Highlights include an outside show at Annie’s Ice Creamery in 2012 to raise funds for Daffodil Cottage and a Bathurst RSL show in 2013. Saturday Night Jukebox team alumni have included Cathy Alexis, Zak Caban, Brian Harvey, Mal Kiely, Lisa, Justin, and Sue Lloyd, Al McCartan, Tad Pietrzykowski, Adam Thompson, Lawrence Wardman, Tim Williams, and David Winter. Jukebox’s current team of presenters consists of Jeff Cox, Ron Gibson, Rielle Moises and Noah Secomb. On Saturdays from 6pm to 10pm they take your inquiries on 6331 0092 or text line 0412 009 923. Saturday Night Jukebox is taking a break this month, but stay tuned for 30th anniversary celebrations at the ‘antenna. Happy Birthday, Saturday Night Jukebox. At this time of year 2MCE country music presenter Rick Nash was usually in Tamworth for the Tamworth Country Music Festival. Unfortunately, the festival has been postponed to April due to COVID-19 restrictions. To honor the artists who were scheduled to perform at the Tamworth Country Music Festival, Rick will present a four-hour special on Rick’s Country Mix on Saturday January 29. It will include artist interviews and a huge giveaway of CDs and vinyl. You can listen to Rick’s Country Mix from 2 p.m. every Saturday on 2MCE.
